Appliance Selection Made Simple (2)

Ovens
Electric or gas are the current choices available (sorry, no induction yet). Gas is a great source for roasting meats and casseroles, and perfect for broiling. One of the byproducts of gas is moisture, which aids in the cooking process. Electric is what the true baker wants. This would refer more to the serious baker that risks it all by doing the ominous soufflé. Dry heat and a constant, even temperature are electric’s benefits. If you have the space, get both and make sure they’re convection to help distribute the heat around.

Microwaves
Who would have thought that this would have options? We now have convection microwaves, light wave microwaves and hot forced air microwaves. It’s all about speed and convenience. In this category, you’re the winner no matter what you buy.

Refrigerators
Top mount, bottom mount, side-by-side, French door, with panels, without panels, framed, trim less, with water, without water, under counter, doors, drawers, full depth, counter depth and built in. Wow, how do you choose? Whatever fits your budget and lifestyle is the best; but do try to make sure it’s Energy Star rated.
